What toys do rabbits enjoy?

January 27, 2024

Rabbits are intelligent and playful animals, and providing them with a variety of toys can help keep them mentally stimulated and physically active

Here are some toys that rabbits often enjoy:

1.  Cardboard Boxes: Rabbits love to chew, and cardboard boxes make great toys for them to shred. You can create tunnels, hideouts, or even a maze with various boxes.

2.  Hay Mats and Cubes: Woven hay mats or cubes can serve as both a toy and a source of additional hay for your rabbit. They can chew on these items and rearrange them to their liking.

3.  Tunnels: Rabbits enjoy exploring tunnels. You can purchase pre-made tunnels or create your own using cardboard or fabric. Some tunnels even crinkle, adding an extra layer of entertainment.

4.  Untreated Willow or Apple Sticks: Willow and apple wood sticks are safe for rabbits to chew on, promoting dental health. They enjoy gnawing on these natural materials.

5. Wooden Chew Toys: Look for wooden toys specifically designed for rabbits. These toys provide a safe and satisfying outlet for your rabbit's chewing instincts.

6.  Digging Boxes: Fill a shallow box with shredded newspaper or safe bedding material, and let your rabbit dig and burrow. This mimics a natural behaviour and can be a lot of fun for them.

7.  Treat Balls and Puzzle Feeders: Fill treat balls or puzzle feeders with your rabbit's favourite pellets or small treats. This encourages mental stimulation and physical activity as they work to get the treats out.

8.  Plastic Baby Keys or Baby Rings: Some rabbits enjoy tossing and throwing lightweight, plastic baby keys or rings. Ensure the toys are safe and do not have any small parts that could be chewed off.

9.  Stuffed Animals: Soft, stuffed animals can be comforting for rabbits. Make sure the materials are rabbit-safe, and avoid items with small parts that could be chewed off.

10.  Cardboard Tunnels and Castles: Pre-made cardboard tunnels or castles designed for small animals can be an entertaining addition to your rabbit's living space.

Always supervise your rabbit when introducing new toys to ensure they are safe and not ingesting any harmful materials. Rotate toys regularly to keep your rabbit's environment interesting and prevent boredom. Additionally, spend time interacting with your rabbit through gentle petting and play to strengthen your bond.
