A home environment designed for hamsters
Hamsters are small, nocturnal animals who need peace, security and plenty of opportunity to burrow and explore. Instead of noisy kennels, they stay in real family homes where we can keep things quiet and predictable.
- Home‑based hamster boarding in London, not a traditional kennel.
- Calm, indoor environment with minimal disturbance, especially during the day.
- Individual attention for each hamster, with routines tailored to their species and temperament.
- We never mix hamsters from different households, and Syrians are always housed alone.
Housing, enrichment and cleaning
We aim to support natural hamster behaviour with secure, well‑set‑up housing and regular enrichment.
- Secure, appropriate housing with safe bar spacing and escape‑proof lids.
- Deep bedding to allow burrowing and nest‑building.
- Solid exercise wheels of suitable size, along with safe tunnels, hides and chew toys.
- Daily checks and regular spot‑cleaning, with deeper cleaning as needed while respecting established nests.
You are welcome to bring your hamster’s own cage, wheel, toys and hideouts so their environment remains familiar. If you prefer us to provide a set‑up, we will discuss options in advance.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a relief to find such a wonderful place to look after our little hamster whilst we are away.
They always take great care of our hamster when he’s with them, even giving him a little present at Christmas.
They are so lovely and accommodating and I honestly could not recommend A Furry World enough!

Out‑of‑cage time and handling
Every hamster has a different personality, and we always work at their pace.
- For tame hamsters who enjoy interaction, we can offer supervised out‑of‑cage time in a secure play area, if requested.
- For nervous or untame hamsters, we focus on gentle, low‑stress care – feeding, checking and spot‑cleaning with minimal disturbance.
- Handling is carried out according to your instructions and your hamster’s comfort level.
- Long‑haired hamsters can receive light grooming and check‑overs where appropriate.
We keep noise and bright light to a minimum during typical resting times and adjust interaction for nocturnal habits whenever possible.
Diet and feeding
To avoid upsetting your hamster’s digestion, we keep their diet as close as possible to what they are used to at home.
- We ask you to bring your hamster’s usual food mix and any special treats.
- We follow your feeding routine, including fresh foods or supplements if you normally provide these.
- Fresh water is available at all times and checked regularly.
- If your hamster is on a particular diet for health reasons, we will carefully follow your written instructions.
We are happy to discuss diet in detail before the stay to make sure we understand your preferences.
Health, medication and monitoring
Your hamster’s safety and wellbeing are always our priority.
- Daily visual health checks, including activity levels, posture, appetite and general behaviour.
- Prompt contact with you (or your nominated person) if we notice anything unusual.
- Ability to give most simple medications by prior arrangement; a small additional fee may apply for complex routines.
- Clear instructions agreed in advance on what to do in an emergency, including any preferred vet details.
Please let us know at the time of booking if your hamster has any ongoing health issues or needs medication.
How hamster boarding bookings work
To provide truly tailored care, we collect detailed information before each boarding stay.
- Initial enquiry – you contact us with your dates and basic details or complete our Hamster Boarding Booking form.
- Care questionnaire – we send a detailed form to capture diet, routine, cage set‑up, health history, handling preferences and any special requirements.
- Optional meeting – where practical, we can arrange a call or meeting so you can ask questions and tell us more about your hamster.
- Confirmation – once everything is agreed, we confirm your booking and discuss drop‑off and collection arrangements.
We recommend booking early for busy periods such as school holidays and Christmas.
